SATYAJIT RAY EXHIBITION CONCLUDED AT NANDAN YESTERDAY

Webdesk, TNI Kolkata 9th May, 2016: Satyajit Ray’s first film ‘Pather Panchali’ crossed a long way of 60 yrs. In order to celebrate this, the Government of West Bengal organized an exhibition on Satyajit Ray from 2nd May till yesterday i.e. 8th May at Nandan 4 in the city. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Principal Secretary, GOWB Mr. Atri Bhattacharya. In the exhibition exhibits like celebrity comments, equipment, promotion tools used by the legendary filmmaker during making of the films, The Michel Camera, The Gold Medal taken from Rashtrapati as the winner of National Award in the ‘Sarbattam Bharatiya Rupak Chitra’ category 1955, Golden Laurel Medal presented at the Edinburgh Festival, The Memento of San Francisco International Film Festival 1957 as the Best Picture, Ray’s original script of the film and the feature about Pather Panchali written by him  reached the exhibition at higher level and many others were displayed. Some other things were also displayed like original copies of various newspapers – magazines about a review of the film and the lobby card, advertisement also. There is no doubt that the film was Ray’s gateway of the winning the lifetime achievement award in the Oscar. A top Government official told TNI that “This is a tribute to Satyajit Ray on his Birthday and also a celebration of 60 years of ‘Pather Panchali’ for making the common people acquainted with the great man”.
